# Is an HVAC Maintenance Plan Worth It in Arizona?

Honest math on per-visit versus $9.99/month per unit, what priority scheduling is worth during a July heat wave, and who genuinely should not buy a plan.

## The Arithmetic, Without the Sales Pitch

The Care N’Comfort membership is $9.99 per month per unit. That is $119.88 a year for a single-system home.

Two Tru Tune-Ups at $27 per unit would cost $54 a year for the same system. So on the maintenance alone, the membership costs more.

That is the honest starting point, and any page that skips it is selling rather than explaining. Either way you are buying the same

inspection, so the membership is worth it for two things the per-visit option does not include, and whether it pays for you depends entirely on how much you value them.

## What You Are Actually Paying the Extra For

**Priority scheduling during peak season.** This is the big one, and it is easy to underrate in March.

By late June, our same-day board fills with no-cooling emergencies by mid-morning. From then until September, scheduling is triage: occupied homes without cooling, prioritised by how bad the situation is. Everything else waits.

If your system fails on a Tuesday afternoon in the third week of July, membership is the difference between an appointment that day and an appointment in two days, in a house gaining five to ten degrees an hour. For most households, that single scenario is worth more than the annual difference.

**Automatic warranty documentation.** Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual maintenance. Claims on compressors and coils get questioned where there is no service history. A plan means the record exists without depending on anyone remembering to book. On equipment still inside a ten-year parts warranty, that exposure is genuinely four figures.

> **The third benefit is that it actually happens**
>
> The most common reason a system goes unserviced is not cost, it is that nobody booked it. A plan removes the decision.

## Who It Suits, and Who It Does Not

| Situation | Verdict |
| --- | --- |
| Multi-system home, 2+ units | Usually worth it. Per-unit pricing means every system gets proper attention. |
| System 8+ years old | Worth it. This is the age where marginal parts start appearing. |
| You forget to book things | Worth it, for the obvious reason. |
| Working from home in summer | Worth it. Priority scheduling matters most when you cannot leave. |
| Rental or investment property | Usually worth it. Tenant comfort calls are urgent and documentation matters. |
| System under 2 years old, diligent owner | Probably not yet. Per-visit at $27 is fine. |
| Property being sold within a year | Probably not. Book a single tune-up instead. |
| You genuinely never call anyone until something breaks | Honestly, no. The plan’s value assumes you use it. |

## What It Includes and What It Does Not

**Included:** seasonal tune-ups in spring and fall, the full multi-point inspection with recorded readings, priority scheduling during peak season, and maintenance documentation for warranty purposes.

**Not included:** parts, repairs, refrigerant, duct work or equipment replacement. Those are quoted flat-rate as they arise, exactly as they would be without a membership. We do not build a discount into the plan and then price repairs to cover it.

**Not required:** a long contract. Cancel any time. We would rather keep members because the service is worth having than because leaving is inconvenient.

## The Underlying Reason This Exists

In a climate with an eight-month cooling season, maintenance is not optional and the failures are predictable. A capacitor at 70 percent of rating in April is a fifteen-minute swap. In July it is an emergency in a house at 95 degrees.

Whether you take the membership or book per visit, the important part is that the spring visit happens. Everything else is a scheduling preference.

FAQ

## Common Questions

### What does the Care N'Comfort membership cost?

$9.99 per month per unit, which is $119.88 a year for a single-system home. It covers seasonal tune-ups in spring and fall, priority scheduling during peak season, and maintenance documentation for manufacturer warranty purposes. The per-unit pricing is deliberate: a three-system Scottsdale home pays $29.97 a month and gets all three systems inspected properly, rather than one headline fee and a cursory glance at the other two.

### Does a maintenance plan keep my warranty valid?

It creates the record that most manufacturer warranties require. Nearly all of them include a clause requiring documented annual maintenance by a qualified technician, and claims on expensive components do get questioned where no service history exists. A plan means the documentation happens automatically rather than depending on you remembering to book. That has saved individual customers four figures on a covered compressor claim.

### Who shouldn't buy a maintenance plan?

If your system is under two years old, you are diligent about filters, and you are confident you will book the seasonal visits yourself, per-visit tune-ups at $27 serve you just as well. The plan's value is concentrated in scheduling priority and automatic documentation, and if neither of those matters to you, do not buy it. We would rather say that than sell a subscription somebody does not need.
